A Century of Music

We love when our very own residents fill our hallways with music!

Meet Jewish Home resident Dora Balter. Dora emigrated to the United States in 1981 at the age of 61 and continued her life as a pianist in San Francisco’s Richmond district. She played professionally at the former Geary Street restaurant Russian Renaissance and at King George Hotel’s piano bar in downtown San Francisco. She also taught piano lessons with students ranging in ages from their early 20s to 75. Today, Dora plays a wide variety of music, especially classical and folk.

Recently one of our staff members heard beautiful music resonating through the Goodman lobby. She was delighted to find Dora playing for her son and granddaughter and was inspired to learn that Dora still plays the piano every day at 102 years old!

We hope you enjoy this short clip of her music as much as we did.

Thank you, Dora, for sharing your gift with us and for filling our halls with beautiful music.
